FSC establishes $20 million partnership with CPMT to support workforce development in Quebec
Toronto, February 18, 2022 – Skills development in Quebec received a large injection of support to help Quebecers face a changing labour market and prepare for jobs of the future, thanks to a three-year, $20-million agreement between the Future Skills Centre (FSC) and the Commission des partenaires du marché du travail (CPMT).
This agreement will provide necessary support, based on Quebec’s needs and economic reality, for projects to test new strategies for the development of future skills. Through this partnership, CPMT will be able to help businesses and the workforce make informed choices about the skills that will be needed to respond to the demographic, digital and environmental transitions that are transforming the workplace.
A vital component of these projects is to ensure skills training is relevant and accessible to diverse groups. Over 50 per cent of the funding will be dedicated to the needs of workers who are under-represented in the labour market, such as immigrants, Indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities, people in the justice system, and youth.
Through this partnership, FSC and CPMT will implement new approaches to skills development in Quebec in the area of future skills. This will allow for the exchange and dissemination of promising practices and labour market data – and is in line with FSC’s focus on sharing insights and innovative solutions to strengthen the skills ecosystem in Canada and foster a resilient learning nation.

The agreement between FSC and CPMT will allow us to accelerate the development, enhancement, recognition and transferability of current and future skills in key sectors of the Quebec economy, notably through a request for proposals from Quebec organizations and businesses. - The agreement provides $20 million to CPMT for the years 2021-2022 to 2023-2024, plus a share of funding for pan-Canadian initiatives led by FSC with the involvement of CPMT.
- By increasing the number of Quebec-based projects in FSC’s portfolio, the agreement will generate new evidence on ‘what works’ in Quebec.
