Il est professeur titulaire \u00e0 plus de trente ans d&#8217;enseignement universitaire et de l&#8217;exp\u00e9rience de la recherche et d\u00e9tient \/ affiliations de recherche a tenu avec le Centre d&#8217;\u00e9tudes sur la gouvernance de l&#8217;Universit\u00e9 Simon Fraser \u00e0 Burnaby; Centre d&#8217;\u00e9tudes du secteur b\u00e9n\u00e9vole, Facult\u00e9 de commerce, Universit\u00e9 Ryerson; l&#8217;Institut international des sciences sociales \u00e0 l&#8217;Universit\u00e9 d&#8217;\u00c9dimbourg, en \u00c9cosse; et CERIS &#8211; Le Centre Metropolis de l&#8217;Ontario (Centre d&#8217;excellence pour la recherche en immigration et) o\u00f9 il a \u00e9t\u00e9 l&#8217;un des directeurs du Centre de 2002 \u00e0 2008. Il a si\u00e9g\u00e9 \u00e0 de nombreux organismes consultatifs, dont le plus r\u00e9cemment pour le Ontario Nonprofit Network (ONN), et est le pr\u00e9sident du conseil actuel de l&#8217;agence de placement sans but lucratif GTA ACCES Employment. Professeur Shields est membre de l&#8217;\u00c9cole Yeates des \u00e9tudes sup\u00e9rieures \u00e0 l&#8217;Universit\u00e9 Ryerson. Il est affili\u00e9 au programme de ma\u00eetrise en politique et administration publique (dont il a \u00e9t\u00e9 co-directeur de 2005 \u00e0 2012); le programme de ma\u00eetrise en \u00e9tudes sur l&#8217;immigration et de r\u00e8glement; le joint (avec l&#8217;Universit\u00e9 York) Programme d&#8217;\u00e9tudes sup\u00e9rieures en communication et de la culture, qui offre \u00e0 la fois une ma\u00eetrise et un doctorat cours d&#8217;eau; et le programme de doctorat en \u00e9tudes politiques.
